Patrick Mahomes Gives Alan Bowman a Big Ol’ Bro Hug at Texas Tech-Baylor Game [Photos]
These photos speak volumes about two things. One is how dedicated former Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes remains to his alma mater. The second is that current Texas Tech quarterback Alan Bowman is here to stay.
At Texas Tech's final game of the 2018 season against Baylor at AT&T Stadium, Bowman ran into Mahomes on the sidelines. The athletes shared a bro-hug, and probably a few words.
But it doesn't matter what they said to each other. What really matters is that Alan Bowman is committed to the Red Raiders, 100 percent. That fact became more clear this week with the hiring of new head coach Matt Wells, along with Offensive Coordinator David Yost and Defensive Coordinator Keith Patterson.
Bowman made his first-ever media appearance over the weekend. It was also arguably the most important one of his collegiate career. Why? Because he made it crystal-clear that he's staying in Lubbock.
"I love the university, I love it here, feel like I'm in a good spot. I'm close to home, about five hours away," Bowman said. "I love the team, the atmosphere here is nuts. Obviously, running the same air raid offense. I'm glad to be here, for sure."
Bowman had standout games in 2018 after taking over as QB1 due to original starter McLane Carter's injury in game 1. That includes a major upset against Oklahoma State in Stillwater. However, Bowman's season was cut short due to an internal lung injury suffered during the West Virginia game. And then, he re-injured it against Oklahoma.
But Bowman expects to be back to 100 percent well before the 2019 season begins.
"They said, I think it's about 10 weeks until it's completely healed. There's like scar tissue on the lung, and whenever that hole scars over, then it actually is stronger than your actual lung muscle is. So next season, perfectly fine -- no problems," Bowman said.
And with Texas Tech's 2019 schedule looking the way it does, Bowman being 100 percent is important.
