The Red Raiders have been busy during the offseason that has been unconventional, to say the least. They added a grad transfer from Alabama last week and doubled down this week by adding another transfer from LSU in safety Eric Monroe. The defensive back is fresh off a National Championship victory with the LSU Tigers last year.

Monroe did not start any games on the Championship run, but he did appear in all the games and was a special teams weapon. Monroe is a native of Houston and played in 29 appearances and will complete his degree at LSU this Summer.

He will be immediately eligible to play this fall with one year of eligibility left for Texas Tech.

Monroe was on his way to breaking into the lineup as a redshirt freshman at LSU before injuries derailed his momentum as a sophomore. Last season, as a junior, he had seven tackles including one in LSU's playoff victory over Oklahoma.

Coming out of high school Monroe was a four-star prospect according to 247sports.com and was rated as the 55th best prospect in the nation and the 3rd ranked safety as a senior at North Shore.

Monroe is the fifth grad transfer to commit to Texas Tech this offseason, joining Townsend from Alabama, as well as former Michigan State linebacker Brandon Bouyer-Randle, Wofford offensive lineman Josh Burger and Duke linebacker Jacob Morgenstern.
