Thursday, the first round the Lubbock Regional was played at the Texas Tech Rawls Course.  The #2 Texas Longhorns are the highest ranked team at the Lubbock Regional, and they are leading after the first round with a team score of -11.

#35 Houston is currently in second with a score of -10, #48 Duke is in third with a score of -8, #9 Texas Tech is in fourth at -6 and Purdue and #26 California for tied for fifth place at -5. The eight remaining teams have scores ranging from -4 to +7.

The top five teams in the Lubbock Regional will advance to the NCAA Championships.

Texas Tech Men's Golf head coach Greg Sands talked to TexasTech.com after the first round, "I think the guys are a little bit disappointed, but at the same time I told them `hey it's just a start.'" Sands said. "They aren't handing out trophies right now."

"I think we had a chance to get over the hump and really get into double-digits today and didn't quite get there," Sands said. "I think we are the first to admit we have to clean up and be more efficient. I told the guys afterwards `hey let's go get our work done and be efficient.'"

Due to heavy rains in Lubbock on Thursday night, second round play won't start until 12:30p Friday afternoon.  Click this link for live scoring of the second round.
