A Wells Fargo branch is closing in Lubbock.

KAMC News reports the bank made the announcement to residents in April that their branch inside the United Supermarket at 2630 Parkway Drive will close Wednesday, July 17th.

Ruth Villalonga, vice president of Wells Fargo's Corporate Communications, says the branch is being closed partly because of a consistent decrease in customer traffic that could be tied to an increase in use of online banking.

Existing Wells Fargo customers can still access a Well Fargo ATM located at 1320 50th Street, which is near the closing branch location. The next closest Wells Fargo Branch for East Lubbock residents is located in North Lubbock across from Texas Tech University at 1215 University Avenue.

Lubbock Mayor Dan Pope has told the media outlet that he's looking at the idea of helping bring a different bank to the east-side area, but specific plans have not been laid out.
