Texas Tech Exerts Its Dominance Over UTEP, Bowman Throws for 3 Touchdowns
While the first half was slow-going, Texas Tech improved to (2-0) for the season Saturday night with a 38-3 win over UTEP (1-1).
Texas Tech quarterback Alan Bowman was very efficient with his passing, at one point in the second quarter having a completion percentage over 80 percent. Bowman finished the game with a 67 percent completion percentage, going 30/45 passing for 260 yards with 3 touchdowns and 1 interception.
Texas Tech led 21-0 at halftime, with the outcome of the game never in doubt.
Texas Tech's defense forced seven 3-and-outs and held UTEP to 131 total yards of offense. The defense didn't force any turnovers, but had three sacks and held UTEP to 2/15 on 3rd Down conversions. UTEP's first seven drives ended with punts. As a team, UTEP had less than 60 passing yards.
After the game, Texas Tech head coach Matt Wells said he wanted the defense to have kept the shutout intact, and that the defense needs to force a turnover.
Meanwhile, Texas Tech's running back by committee saw Armand Shyne and Ta'Zhawn Henry both score rushing touchdowns. Shyne and SaRodorick Thompson both rushed for 45 yards on eight carries. Henry rushed for 28 yards on seven carries.
Junior wide receiver T.J. Vasher had two touchdown receptions in the win, catching six passes for 78 yards.
The Red Raiders offense was 8/14 on 3rd Down conversions, and two first half possessions ended in a punt.
