Former Red Raider Baker Mayfield Goes Number One Overall in NFL Draft
In a SHOCKING turn of events, former Texas Tech quarterback Baker Mayfield shoots up the draft board and gets drafted first overall by the Cleveland Browns.
The Heisman trophy winner who battled through the toughest of times his entire life.
It's really one of the biggest underdog stories of all-time. Huge. Like, Clifford the Big Red Dog-sized underdog. He battled through walking-on at Texas Tech and was the first ever true freshman walk-on to start on opening day. Then, he went to Oklahoma and the quarterbacks transferred away and decided to play baseball to allow his quarterback battle to be especially difficult.
But Baker Underdog fought through it.
He then had to fight through getting a special ruling in his favor just to allow him to play a 6th year and win the Heisman trophy.
His three straight Big 12 Championships were against all odds, as Bob Stoops had only won eight Big 12 Championships in the last 15 years, which is only two more conference championships than Nick Saban.
He also overcame being tackled by a Fayetteville Police Officer and a one-drive suspension.
It all adds up to Baker being a huge role model.
What isn't surprising is that Baker got drafted to Ohio and he already owns Columbus.
Never forget.
