"Last Chance U" is leaving Mississippi, but it isn't leaving Netflix.

The newest season -- the show's third -- will take place in Independence, Kansas, and will feature a much different program than the first two seasons. The story won't change, though. A band of cast-offs and misfits will band together for one last shot at personal glory.

Season 1 of the show was a smash hit, but it was Season 2 that drew in a Lubbock audience. Texas Tech's Dakota Allen was a star of the show in between his stints at Texas Tech University.

Allen had an entire episode devoted to his story and his rise, fall and reappearance with Texas Tech was featured on the show.

After Season 3 gets going, Allen won't be the only former Red Raider to appear on the series.

Once a member of the 2013 class (head coach Kliff Kingsbury's first), Carlos Thompson joined fellow wide-outs Dylan Cantrell and Zach Austin as freshmen. The class also included Davis Webb, Baylen Brown, Justis Nelson, Devin Lauderdale and some walk-on scrub named Baker Mayfield.

"Last Chance U" Season 3 will cover the 2017 season as Independence CC tries to come from obscurity and have a return to prominence. In the Season 3 trailer, former Red Raiders player Carlos Thompson says: "They gave me multiple chances and I couldn't get it right" -- which could reference Texas Tech, or he could be struggling to get through the season at Independence.

I doubt that Thompson is on a road to redemption that runs back through Texas Tech, but I'll be excited to see how his season turns out when Season 3 of "Last Chance U" drops on Netflix in July.
