Kliff Kingsbury Got Fired and Left the Country

Kliff Kingsbury made it through four seasons in Arizona with Kyler Murray before finally getting fired after a disappointing season in which he didn't have DeAndre Hopkins to start the year or Murray to finish it. Kingsbury took over the worst team in the NFL, improved it year over year for three seasons, and then a dramatic off-field season for the franchise tanked his season.

Why do I say it was a dramatic off-field season? The team was followed by HBO all year for the first-ever in-season Hard Knocks show. Their OLine coach was fired after the team went to Mexico, but it was later alleged he was wrongfully fired after a bizarre mistaken identity and the team should have actually the GM. The GM stepped down for health reasons soon after.

All of that, after the offseason, involved their best player getting suspended and the craziest contract dispute ever when Kyler Murray got his feelings hurt that the Cardinals wanted him to study the film and playbook a little more.

That NFL stretch comes after a 2017 and 18 in Lubbock where his Alma Maters fans turned on him and begged Kirby Hocutt to fire him. Deservedly so, but must have worn on the man.

I can't imagine the amount of pressure Kingsbury has been under since 2013. Taking a head coaching job that many people thought he hadn't earned yet. Going six seasons got fired, then got a job as USC's OC for about a week before getting a job as the Arizona Cardinals head coach, a job most people thought he didn't deserve.

Now, the hottest name in NFL offensive coordinator job searches has up and left the country.

Kliff Kingsbury is on sabbatical. Something he desperately deserves.

The New England Patriots, Denver Broncos, Los Angeles Rams, Kansas City Chiefs, Dallas Cowboys, and more could all potentially be attractive for Kingsbury to return as the offensive coordinator. A job he is in demand for, but it wouldn't surprise me if that one-way ticket to Thailand turned into a year off for Kingsbury.

I'm not sure if Kingsbury got as much as Matt Rhule did when he was fired from the Panthers, but the NFL buyout is not a small chunk of change. Kingsbury doesn't need to work, especially if he's living in Thailand on a beach like this.

If I was a young millionaire with nothing to do in the near future, I'd say Phuket with a one-way ticket too.
