The Texas Rangers End a Four Game Losing Streak Thanks to Two Late Inning Homeruns
The Texas Rangers were looking to avoid losing their fifth game in a row as they took on the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Monday night. They also were in the process of trying to snap a 26 inning scoreless streak.
Both would be tough tasks as they faced LA's ace Jered Weaver. He was able to keep the Ranger offense in check for the most part of the game as he went seven innings giving up just one run on five hits while striking out six Rangers.
The offense would come alive in the ninth though led by A.J. Pierzenski and Geovany Soto. A.J. Pierzynski tied the game with a leadoff homer and then Nelson Cruz followed with a single to left, but David Murphy grounded into a double play. That set the stage for Soto. He watched closer Ernesto Frieri throw three straight fastballs for balls, then watched one go by for a strike and take another for strike two to make the count full. Frieri threw one more fastball and Soto crushed it straight down the left-field line to give the Rangers the 4-3 victory.
Texas' starter Matt Garza also had a strong outing going seven innings while giving up three runs on five hits. He did not receive the win however. That went to reliever Jason Frasor who came in the ninth and shut the door on the Angels.
The Rangers will hope to continue this success as they are still six games behind the division leading Oakland Athletics. They will play game two of their midweek series against the Angels today with first pitch set for 7:05 pm from the Ballpark in Arlington and can be seen on FOX Sports SW.
