Houston Astros Trade for Pitcher Scott Kazmir
Thursday afternoon the Houston Astros announced the acquisition of starting pitcher Scott Kazmir from the Oakland A's. The Astros sent two minor league prospects to Oakland, right-handed pitcher Daniel Mengden and catcher Jacob Nottingham.
Kazmir, a native Houstonian, may end up being a rental for Houston as he will become a free agent in the offseason. He is earning $13,000,000 this season.
Kazmir this season has a 5-5 record with a 2.38 ERA in 18 starts for the A's. According to MLB.com he is fourth in the American League in opponents' batting average (.213), fifth in ERA at the previously mentioned 2.38, and fifth in opponents on-base percentage (.279).
It is projected that Kazmir will become the Astros #2 starter behind All-Star Dallas Keuchel. Kazmir was supposed to pitch Thursday for Oakland and the Astros have not announced when he will make his next start.
The Astros will have to make a roster move to officially activate Kazmir later in the week.
