Angels Upend the Astros as They Keep Their Playoff Hopes Alive
The Houston Astros tenuous position at the top of the AL West is going to be a battle to hold on to for the rest of the season.
Coming into Friday's game, the Astros had a 2.5 game lead over the Texas Rangers and a 5.5 game lead over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. But the Angels were able to cut the Astros lead down by a game, as they took advantage of a Dallas Keuchel miscue in the second inning en route to a 3-2 win.
With two outs in the bottom of the second, Keuchel misplayed a ball hit by Taylor Featherstone, allowing the Angels to load the bases.
Keuchel then uncorked a wild pitch, allowing Erick Aybar to score from third. Then, Kole Calhoun hit a single to left, scoring Carlos Perez and Featherstone. The three runs the Angels scored in the second, ended up being all they needed for the win.
Carlos Gomez hit a two-run homer off of Jered Weaver in the sixth, but that was all the offense the Astros could muster.
Weaver pitched six innings to earn his seventh win of the season. Keuchel's record dropped to (17-7).
The Astros and Angels play the second game of their series Saturday night at 8pm Central Time, you can hear the game beginning at 7:40pm on SportsRadio 1340 The Fan.
