The Texas Tech football team came into tonight at 4-6 in a must-win situation against Kansas State. A slow first half exploded into a high-scoring second half, but Texas Tech could not overcome penalties and missed calls, falling to the Wildcats, 30-27.

Texas Tech won the toss and took the ball to open the game. The Red Raiders and Wildcats would trade punts for several drives before QB Jett Duffey would end the first good drive of the game with an interception that the K-State offense would turn into a field goal.

More punts and trading of field goal drives, plus a missed field goal by Kansas State at the end of the half would make it 6-3 in the Wildcats' favor heading into halftime.

The second half would be much more entertaining.

Kansas State opened the second half with a 9-play, 75-yard touchdown drive ending on a Phillip Brooks touchdown catch from Skylar Thompson. The Red Raider offense would turn the momentum with a 12-play, 75-yard touchdown capped off by SaRodorick Thompson touchdown run.

Just when it looked like Texas Tech could make a run, the Wildcats returned a kickoff for a touchdown to make it 20-10. That could have been backbreaking for Texas Tech, but Duffey led a 6-play, 49-yard drive after a great kick off return from KeSean Carter. The drive was finished with a touchdown catch by Erik Ezukanma.

The teams would trade field goals to make it 23-20 with 14:35 left in the 4th quarter. The Red Raiders were forced into the field goal after a weird touchdown/no touchdown ruling when KeSean Carter caught a ball at the goal line, but couldn't control it through the entire process...whatever the process is.

A few punts would stall the scoring before Kansas State struck big with a 48-yard touchdown pass from Skylar Thompson, making it 30-20.

Duffey and Thompson would trade interceptions before Duffey responded with his own long touchdown throw to RJ Turner for 58 yards, making the game 30-27.

With 3:48 left, Texas Tech would kick it deep to Kansas State, and they would not get the ball back after Skyler Thompson converted a 3rd and 11, finally putting the Red Raiders out of their misery.

The second half was riddled with under-thrown passes from Skylar Thompson that turned into pass interference calls against Texas Tech. All of them were costly.

Next Friday, Texas Tech plays Texas in Austin to finish the 2019 season.
