Texas Tech Finishes in 9th Place at 2011 NCAA Track and Field Outdoor Championships

The Red Raiders completed their competition in the NCAA Outdoor Championships with their 2nd best finish in the programs history with 26 points.

Julian Wruck was the highlight for the Red Raiders at the competition. Wruck won the NCAA national title.  On his second throw of the competition, Wruck threw the discus 202'-9" (61.81M) to win the event and the title.

Sophomore, Bryce Lamb finished fifth in the men's long jump at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Lamb improved on three of his four legal jumps. On Lamb's final attempt he set a personal best of 26'-9" (8.15M), which is the second-best jump in school history. With that jump Lamb won his first outdoor first-team All-America honor. He is the first since Tony Walton earned this honor for the Red Raiders in 1990 and 1991.

It is thought the Red Raiders should have finished better as All-American Lamb was unable to score a fair jump on the triple jump as he was called foul on all 3 attempts and the Red Raiders 4x400m team of Latoy Williams, Shane Brathwaite, Jamele Mason and Gil Roberts struggled with a hand off and was unable to finish the race. Also, Gil Robert originally placed in the 400m dash but after further review it appeared his foot stepped outside his lane therefore disqualifying him.

The Lady Raiders finished tied for 54th place with 3 points.

Texas A&M won the men's and women's championships.
