A Lubbock man was charged with aggravated assault after he stabbed someone for...holding a screwdriver?

KAMC News reports that police responded to a convenience store in the 5400 block of 40th Street. This was the night of Friday, June 24th, 2022.

It's said that the victim, who hasn't been identified, was working on a woman's car when her son, 18-year-old Joshua Martinez, Jr. "came out of nowhere" and stabbed the victim. Martinez's mother thinks that he saw the victim standing too close to her and that's why he attacked.

When questioned by police, Martinez said that he saw the screwdriver in the hand of the victim and thought "it was a 'do or die' situation, so he stabbed" the victim. No other reason for the stabbing was given.

The victim was suffering from serious but non-life-threatening injuries and is believed to currently be in stable condition.

Martinez remains booked in the Lubbock County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond.
