With Texas Tech up 7-3 late in the first quarter, the Red Raiders started a drive at their own 25 following a Louisiana Tech field goal. After an 11 yard gain, Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes showed off his arm by connecting with Jonathan Giles on a 64 yard touchdown pass. Giles' speed was evident on the play as he easily outran both safeties. On the Red Raiders next drive, it took three plays to score, as Mahomes found Giles wide open in the back left of the end zone on a 36 yard touchdown pass.  Mahomes on the play originally scrambled right and then ran left in the backfield, throwing with his momentum on the play. Through the first quarter alone, Jonathan Giles had three receptions for 109 yards and two touchdowns. According to Texas Tech, today's game is Giles first 100 yard receiving game.
