So what are Lubbock's 7 Wonders of the World, and how would you define them?

I define Lubbock's 7 Wonders Of The World as things that are very unique to the Hub City. Things that make us special or odd.

    The Oversized Buddy Holly Glasses

Where else can you find a pair of giant spectacles just kickin' it in a parking lot? A mock-up of Buddy's glasses makes one of the absolute best photo opportunities in the Hub City.

Yes, we have a statue of Buddy Holly, but lots of towns have lots of statues. We have giant glasses.

    Lubbock Lake Landmark

We have a gen-u-wine (that's 'genuine' in hillbilly) archaeological dig right here in our own backyard.

It's amazing that things out at Lubbock Lake Landmark have been dated to 36,000 years ago. Volunteers come from all around the world for summer digs and to explore the area.

    The Playa Lake System

The Playa Lake system in Lubbock gets a nod kinda for what it is: A system of rain reservoirs masquerading as lakes.

You would have thought the ancient Greeks or Chinese or somebody would have come up with a better system to collect stormwater. Oh wait, they did.

    Jones AT&T Stadium

When I talked to the fellas in Metallica's organization about local landmarks, only two things came to mind: The Buddy Holly Statue, and Jones AT&T Stadium.

Texas Tech University's football stadium is a true feat of engineering and packs a serious 'wow' factor whether you're looking at it from inside or out. It's probably the single most impressive structure in Lubbock.

    Pyramid Plaza

I've seen two buildings that look like pyramids in my lifetime. The second one was the Luxor Casino in Las Vegas, but the first was Pyramid Plaza right here in the LBK.

Have you ever really taken a look at that building and realized how odd and inefficient it is for office space? The builders could have gone straight up and held more tenants, but chose to be unique, and that's kind of cool.

    Prairie Dog Town

You realize we have a landmark devoted to rodents, right? You sure as heck aren't going to find something that unique in every town.

Don't get me wrong, I think prairie dogs are cute as the dickens, but when you really think about it, it's odd.

    The Metro Tower

The Metro Tower makes the list because of the damage it took in the 1970 Lubbock tornado. Despite extensive damage, the building did not fall and was repaired, but still has a slight twist in its structure due to taking a direct hit.
