Legendary Red Raider Danny Amendola Retires From the NFL
Danny Amendola finished off his time in the NFL as a member of the Houston Texans during the 2021 season. Amendola played 8 games in his final season, notching three touchdowns in 24 catches.
Adam Schefter announced Amendola's retirement on July 25th as teams head to training camp.
Amendola first signed with the Dallas Cowboys and had a quick stop in Philadelphia before landing in St. Louis for four seasons with the Rams. In year two with the Rams, Amendola set career highs with 85 receptions and 689 yards. Amendola then went and played with Tom Brady and the New England Patriots for six seasons, where he won two Super Bowls against the Seahawks and Falcons.
Amendola was absolutely clutch in both Super Bowls and had several huge moments in the playoffs with New England.
The accomplished wide receiver then signed as a free agent with the Miami Dolphins, joining fellow Red Raider Jakeem Grant for a single season. A career resurgence was felt in Detroit the next season as Amendola saw 97 targets in 15 games with the Lions. Amendola returned to the Lions for a second season before going home to Houston for his final season.
Amendola played his high school ball and grew up in the Houston area.
As Schefter mentioned in the announcement, Amendola could be looking to a job in the sports media world as an analyst or broadcaster. He could also get into coaching like Wes Welker, who is currently with the Miami Dolphins as the wide receivers coach.
