Kliff Kingsbury and Texas Tech Officially Finalize Contract
New Texas Tech Head Football Coach Kliff Kingsbury signed a five-year contract, worth $10.25 million over the life of the contract. $9.15 million of the contract is guaranteed to Kingsbury.
Kingsbury could earn an extra $3 million if he can meet bonuses laid out in his contract. Yesterday, ESPN reported the contract was worth $10.5 million over five years (story).
Some of the incentives for Kingsbury include bonuses for winning the conference, bowl games, and the offense or defense finishing in the top five statistically, according to Don Williams of RedRaiders.com.
Kingsbury was hired in December of 2012 to replace the departing Tommy Tuberville who accepted the University of Cincinnati.
Kingsbury was previously the offensive coordinator at Texas A&M and an assistant at the University of Houston in his brief coaching career.
Texas Tech opens the season August 31st in Dallas against the SMU Mustangs.
