The last time Texas Tech was in Fort Worth it was not pretty. It was the opposite of pretty. I think this game today can be... prettier?

The Texas Tech Red Raiders have the offense back on track though after a rough few weeks after setting all kinds of records against Oklahoma last week. There are 3 keys to the Red Raiders winning today and ending the losing streak that the team is in.

These steps may not be easy but they are attainable goals for this team.

Here it goes:

    Win the Turnover Battle

The Red Raiders have a -4 turnover margin. They were -2 against Oklahoma and only lost by 7 points. They also lost the turnover battle against Kansas State and lost a close game.

If the Red Raider defense, a defense that only has 5 take aways on the entire year, can force some turnovers then this team has a real chance to win today.

More realistic is that the offense can take care of the ball and you can come out even on the turnover battle.

    Create/ Avoid Negative Plays

Joe Mixon killed the Red Raiders several times after being trapped in the backfield. Baker Mayfield scrambled away from sacks and created big plays.

Penalties have taken off multiple big plays from the offense. It seems like multiple times a game Texas Tech has to score 2 or 3 times on a single drive before it finally counts.

The offense must avoid these penalties and negative plays to be in a position to win today.

On the other hand the defense must be able to complete the tackle or sack when you have someone wrapped up in the backfield.

Seems like a simple thing, but it hasn't been for Texas Tech.

    Be Better on Special Teams

It's a good thing Texas Tech hardly ever punts because they aren't good at it. Forget the safety against Kansas, the Texas Tech punters have the worst average in the Big 12.

The net average per punt is only 34 yards.

The Red Raiders have to set the defense up for success by creating some long fields for TCU to overcome. If the field is never flipped Texas Tech may as well just onside kick it every time and never punt.

    Now that I mention it...
