Giants Will Host Cowboys to Open 2012 NFL Season

The first game of the 2012 NFL regular season will be the same match-up of the 2011 NFL regular season finale with the New York Giants hosting the Dallas Cowboys.

The Super Bowl champion Giants will host Dallas at MetLife Stadium on Sept. 5. The game will be played at 7:30 CT and will be televised by NBC.

It will be the third consecutive Cowboys-Giants game to air on NBC in prime time, as both of last season’s games between the two NFC East rivals were NBC Sunday night games.

The regular season has started on a Thursday since 2002, but the league moved this year’s opener to Wednesday to avoid a conflict with President Barack Obama’s planned speech at the Democratic National Convention.

According to the league, it hasn’t played a game on a Wednesday since Sept. 22, 1948, when the Rams faced the Lions.

The Giants have won five of their last six meetings against the Cowboys.
