On Sunday, December 19th, 2 suspects were arrested after they were pursued by a Texas DPS helicopter.

Lubbock Police first responded to reports of shots fired in the 2700 block of 9th Street. This was at around 1 a.m.

One person at the scene told police that they had seen a man running towards a White Chevrolet Malibu after the shots rang out. This Malibu was observed driving away very quickly. KAMC News reports that since the Malibu was traveling so fast, officers didn't pursue it.

However, the Texas Department of Public Safety dispatched a helicopter to pursue the Malibu. The helicopter was able to maintain a visual on the vehicle throughout the entire pursuit, noting that it was running stop signs and at one point turned off its lights.

Eventually, the Malibu stopped in the northbound access road on I-27 near 48th Street. One officer with LPD was able to track down the Malibu at this point and observe 2 suspects running from the vehicle on foot. Those suspects, Mizarius Zyouon Williams and Juquan Javor Johnson, were apprehended soon after. A rifle was said to have been found nearby over a barbed wire fence.

Both were charged with tampering with physical evidence, and Williams was charged additionally with unlawful possession of a firearm.
