Changes Continue for Texas Tech Football as Sonny Cumbie Leaves Staff
Early Monday, Texas Tech co-offensive coordinator Sonny Cumbie officially resigned from the Red Raider coaching staff. Last week, head coach Kliff Kingsbury was mum on speculation that Cumbie might leave the Red Raider program.
Cumbie will head to TCU to coach the Horned Frogs quarterbacks and have input into their offensive scheme.
Cumbie's had a long history with Texas Tech Football; both playing and coaching for the Red Raiders. Cumbie played quarterback from 2001-04, seeing limited action in both 2002 & 2003 and then was the starter in 2004. In the 2004 postseason, he led the Red Raiders to a Holiday Bowl win against Cal.
He then returned as an offensive assistant in 2010 working with wide receivers and then becoming co-offensive coordinator in 2013.
Cumbie will work with new TCU offensive coordinator Doug Meacham who was hired last week by TCU head coach Gary Patterson.
