Yu Darvish and the Texas Rangers were one out away from perfection Tuesday night in Houston.

Darvish threw 8 and 2/3 innings of perfect baseball before Houston Astros Short Stop Marwin Gonzalez grounded a single through the pitcher’s legs in the bottom of the ninth. Darvish (1-0) would leave the game after the hit and Michael Kirkman would get the final out for the Rangers.

"I think my teammates were a little more disappointed than I am," Darvish said. "Even if I got the [perfect] game, it doesn't translate to three to five wins. It's still just one win. I think my teammates were more disappointed than me."

Darvish struck out 14 batters and threw 78 strikes on 111 pitches in his 2013 debut.

Ian Kinsler led the Rangers at the plate going 2 for 4 with a two-run homer in the seventh inning and Lance Berkman went 3 for 4 with an RBI in the 3rd inning.

Lucas Harrell (0-1) took the loss throw six solid innings giving up one run on six hits with four strikeouts.

The Rangers and Astros finish their three game series today at 1:10 p.m. from Minute Maid Park.
