Who Belongs on Texas Tech’s All-Decade Basketball Team? Vote Now!
The Texas Tech men's basketball team started the decade in the basement of the Big 12. The Red Raiders couldn't move past the Bob Knight era seamlessly. When Pat Knight took over, the program saw a downturn.
The Red Raiders then hired Billy Gillespie, who didn't last long in Lubbock. The decade found a turning point though, in Hall of Fame-caliber coach Tubby Smith, before finishing on a high note with Chris Beard and his 2019 NCAA tournament success.
Just because there were only a few seasons that featured team success doesn't mean the decade has been devoid of talented players.
This morning on The Rob Breaux Show with Karson Robinson, we took the 25 best players that have donned the red and black since 2009 and threw them into a draft pool.
Ryan Hyatt took Jarrett Culver first overall, and we were off to the races.
You can listen to the complete draft here:
Now that the teams have been chosen, which team would win a four-team tournament?
TEAM LOWRANCE:
Tucker Lowrance had the 3rd pick in the All-Decade draft and locked up the bouncy Zhaire Smith early. He added point guard John Roberson, big man Anthony Livingston and a pair of freshmen with more potential than substance in Jahmi'us Ramsey and Terrance Shannon to round out his starting 5. His 6th man is one of the best to ever hold the role as a Red Raider: Brandone Francis.
TEAM ROBINSON:
Karson Robinson had the unenviable fourth pick in the draft, which led him to back-to-back picks of Matt Mooney and Davide Moretti. He'd add underrated stars Toddrick Gotcher, Aaron Ross and Robert Lewandowski to bolster his starting 5. His 6th man is none other than the man of the hour, Avery Benson.
TEAM BREAUX:
Holding the second pick, I made sure nobody was getting easy buckets, and that my team would be able to run the pick and roll to perfection with Keenan Evan throwing countless lobs to both Zach Smith and Tariq Owens. The block party starting 5 is bolstered by Mike Singletary and do-it-all guard Justin Gray. The 6th man is Kyler Edwards.
TEAM HYATT:
Ryan Hyatt was blessed with the number one overall pick, Jarrett Culver, but then had to wait for things to snake all the way back to him. He somehow still ended up with Jaye Crockett and Norense Odiase. His starting 5 finished with Chris Clarke and Jordan Tolbert, with 6th man Robert Turner.
The only thing left to do now is for you to vote.
