Earlier this morning, former Texas Tech basketball coach and current Texas Longhorns coach was reportedly arrested on a third-degree felony assault charge early Monday morning in Austin, Texas according to the Travis County Sheriff's office.

Beard's good friend Jeff Goodman is a reliable source on all things Beard.

Austin American Statesman reporter Tony Plohetski broke the news.

Chris Beard is 49 years old and coached at Texas Tech for five seasons before heading to Texas prior to last year. Beard had his Texas team playing well and was undefeated until losing to Terrence Shannon Jr and the Illinois Fighting Illini last week. With other losses around the country, Beard's Longhorns are ranked No. 2 in the latest polls.

Last night though, Beard was charged with assault on a family or household member/impeding breath circulation, per the sheriff’s office.

It's not a certainty that Chris Beard will be fired from Texas. On one hand, we don't know the whole story, though the initial reports look terrible. On the second hand, The University of Texas Basketball Program ignored a domestic violence story all summer and the player that was at the center of that controversy has played in every game this season.

Is that just the Chris Beard culture?

If Beard is fired, I would assume Texas promotes either Rodney Terry or Chris Ogden, who both have head coaching experience. My guess would be Terry who has ten years of coaching experience at both UTEP and Fresno State.
