Video Showing Officer Kicking K9 Prompts Investigation
The Amarillo Police Department has released a statement about a video circulating online showing an officer kicking his K9 during a recent incident in which a suspect had stolen a vehicle.
The grainy video is a powerful testimony for the animal.
The Amarillo Police Department states that they have decided to investigate the incident on two fronts. One, to "determine if the officer violated any department policies or procedures," and two, whether or not a crime against the animal occurred.
The statement from the APD also indicates that the K9 has been removed from the officer's residence and does not appear to have sustained any injuries, but is scheduled to be checked by a veterinarian.
People who abuse animals are statistically likely to also do harm to humans, so it goes without saying that there should be action taken to prevent this officer from being able to do harm to the assets with whom he serves and the public for which he serves.
