TSA Discovers Loaded Firearm in Carry-on Bag at Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) discovered a loaded firearm in a passenger’s carry-on bag at the Lubbock Preston Smith International airport over the weekend.
Sunday morning (Sept. 30th), the TSA discovered a 9mm Sig Sauer firearm loaded with six rounds during the security screening checkpoint. The weapon was found inside a traveler's carry-on bag.
The Lubbock International Airport Police responded and took possession of the weapon and the passenger was not detained or arrested.
In 2017, the TSA found 16 firearms at the Lubbock checkpoint. This year to date, they've found 11.
The TSA said fines of up to $13,000 can be levied against travelers who bring a firearm to an airport checkpoint. But on average, the penalty is $3,900.
