After the Coronado Mustangs' former head coach Seth Parr left to take a job in Anna, Texas, the school was left to find his replacement. To do that, they found former Mustang Daron Mann, Jr. and convinced him to come back home to take over the program where he played in 2001 and 2002.

Lubbock ISD Superintendent Dr. Kathy Rollo and Executive Director of Athletics Mike Meeks confirmed the hire and introduced Mann to the Board of Trustees on Thursday. Mann will be the Mustangs' head football coach and athletics coordinator.

Mann lettered in football at Coronado in 2001 and 2002 and had three letters in track and field. He is currently a special education teacher, recruitment coordinator, and coach at Cedar Hill High School in the Cedar Hill ISD.

Mann is an offensive-minded coach that was the co-offensive coordinator and passing game coordinator at Cedar Hill. Their team played for a State Championship in 2020, and won back-to-back district titles in 2018 and 2019.

According to the LISD release, Mann has been coaching since 2006 after getting his start at Palo Duro High School in Amarillo and has been moving around and climbing the ladder since. He attended West Texas A&M for his undergrad and played football before getting a master's degree from Concordia University.

Mann will bring a balanced offensive approach to Coronado, but will be replacing a lot of talent after losing quarterback Sawyer Robertson and a number of other great players to graduation over the last two seasons.

Coach Mann and his wife Alison have two sons, Obie and Trae.
