The 62nd Annual Sweetwater Rattlesnake Roundup Rolls Out This Week
The World's Largest Rattlesnake Roundup gets underway this Thursday, March 12th, and rolls right through the weekend, in Sweetwater, Texas.
This tremendous 62nd annual event is presented by the Sweetwater Jaycees, and most of the activity is in and around the Nolan County Coliseum, 220 Coliseum Drive. This roundup includes a parade, cook-off, snake charmers, a snake eating contest, a gun, knife and coin show, a huge rattlesnake roundup, and much more.
One of the rattlesnakes came to visit us here at the radio station with the Jaycees.
The rattlesnake featured above is in that box with the Jaycees, right in our studio. I still can't believe it. I had plenty of questions, so listen to the interview below.
We found out that venomous snake bites need immediate medical attention and treatment can be extensive. Don't take it lightly. On the upside, a snake you may come across in the wild will only bite if it's startled or feels threatened.
These brave Jaycees had their snake boots on. They stirred him up a little so he would rattle, and I watched from a safe distance as the snake bit one of their boots.
Get out for this exciting event that raises important funds to support the community and many charitable organizations.
