Texas Tech's Tyree Wilson left the game during the second half of their 43-28 win over the  Kansas Jayhawks.

The star pass rusher was close to a sack of Jayhawks quarterback Jason Bean when he went down on the turf after not much contact was made. He was helped off the field by Texas Tech staff, but not after attempting to walk off the field under his own power.

After the game, head coach Joey McGuire talked about Wilson and what transpired after he was carted to the locker room. Wilson was x-rayed, but after he was ruled out for the game and put in a boot, there wasn't much else for McGuire to do tonight.

McGuire said that Wilson's foot and ankle will be reevaluated tomorrow, but it was pretty clear that nothing had been confirmed yet. McGuire did seem doubtful that Wilson would play next week against Iowa State but didn't rule out a return this season.

It won't be the popular decision among the Texas Tech fan base, but Wilson should absolutely shut it down for the season. I know that his team needs him and his incredible talents across the final two games and a potential bowl game, but Wilson is a potential first-round draft pick and any further injury could put his draft status in jeopardy.

Wilson is close to the league lead in sacks and led the entire power 5 in quarterback pressures heading into the Kansas game. I don't think there is much he can do to improve that stock across the final two games, and there's absolutely no shame in protecting that investment.

I'm not saying that Wilson is out for the year, but I personally would be very surprised to see him play again as a Red Raider. What a stretch he's had over the past two seasons. If he does get picked in the first round, he'll join Patrick Mahomes and Jordyn Brooks as the 3rd Red Raider to be picked in the first round since 2017 and the fourth since Michael Crabtree in 2009.
