Texas Tech Head Track and Field Coach Wes Kittley was recognized by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Monday as he was named the Mountain Region Women’s Coach of the Year.

Kittley was last named USTFCCCA Women's Mountain Region Coach of the Year following the 2009 season when he led the Lady Raiders to a second place finish at the Big 12 Championships.

The Lady Raiders were ranked in the top-10 of the USTFCCCA Coaches Poll six times during the 2012 outdoor season, ranking as high as No. 6 on May 8.

"What I am so proud of is the girls getting recognized for the year that we have had," Kittley said. "I'm just really proud. It certainly recognizes the girls and the resiliency they have had all year."

Kittley is in his 13th season leading the Texas Tech Track and Field program.

Both the Red Raiders and the Lady Raiders will begin action at the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championships Wednesday at Drake Stadium.
