Texas Tech Snaps 20 Game Big 12 Losing Streak on Sunday
The Texas Tech Lady Raiders earned their first Big 12 win since February 27th of 2013 as they beat TCU 52-37. The win snapped a 20 game conference losing streak and also marked the first Big 12 win for second year head coach Candi Whitaker. Texas Tech senior Kelsi Baker scored 17 points and freshman Dayo Olabode added a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Raiders to lead Tech in the win on Sunday.
Texas Tech shot out of the gate in the first half with a 13-2 lead on TCU (8-4, 0-1) thanks in part to Olabode and her relentlessness on the boards. The freshman standout had 10 points and seven rebounds in the first half, including four offensive boards. Eight of her ten points were on put backs as the Lady Raiders led 16-6 in second-chance points and 32-16 in the paint on Sunday.
With the win, the Lady Raiders improve to 11-2 on the year while also remaining unbeaten in the United Supermarkets Arena. Candi Whitaker and company will now make the trip up to Stillwater, Oklahoma for its first true road game of the season when it takes on #18 Oklahoma State (10-2, 0-1) at 7pm on Wednesday night.
