Texas Tech Running Back Arrested in Lubbock
Update (Sept. 21st, 2020 at 5:10 p.m.): The Texas Tech athletic department has released the following statement about the SaRodorick Thompson arrest,
“SaRodorick Thompson was notified late last week that there had been a misdemeanor warrant issued in his name. Thompson and his lawyer are currently cooperating with the Lubbock Police Department and have done so since the incident in late June. Texas Tech Athletics will handle the matter consistent with its student-athlete discipline policy and any discipline will be handled internally. Thompson is expected to play in Saturday’s Big 12 opener versus Texas.”
Thompson and the team have been aware of the situation and are working to resolve it.
Update (Sept. 21st, 2020 at 3:24 p.m.): More information has come to light about the arrest of Texas Tech running back SaRodorick Thompson.
According to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, Thompson's arrest stems from a June 27th, 2020 racing incident in Lubbock involving two other drivers. He's being charged with a Class B misdemeanor for racing, according to the site.
Not long after the June 27th street race, one of Thompson's teammates, Caden Leggett, was arrested and charged with the same crime. Thompson is believed to be one of the two other drivers who initially did not pull over for police.
At the time of the incident, Texas Tech Athletics issued the following statement: "Texas Tech Athletics is aware of an incident involving members of its football program from this past weekend. At this time, Texas Tech continues to gather facts regarding the situation and will handle the matter in accordance with the Student-Athlete Code of Conduct process."
Original story: Reports surfaced this afternoon that the starting running back for Texas Tech was arrested and booked into the Lubbock County jail on September 21st around 1:45 pm.

There's no word on the charges as of the publication of this story, but the Red Raiders will likely be without Thompson this weekend as they head into Big 12 play against the Texas Longhorns.
Thompson carried 16 times for 86 yards and a touchdown in last year's season finale at Texas, and 22 times for 118 yards and two touchdowns in Texas Tech's 2020 season opening win against Houston Baptist.
