Today’s Texas Tech Football practice report is filed by 1340 The Fan’s Rob Brennan

Lubbock, TX (1340TheFan.com) — Texas Tech got back on the practice field after taking a day off after Saturday evening's scrimmage.  Head coach Tommy Tuberville says he liked the overall performance of the first scrimmage.  The offensive line play bothered the coach, but Tuberville knows he can't do much about it.  The offensive line is a shell of what it should be, three players are out with concussions, and only eight of the 13 lineman are practicing.

What seemed to stand out the most to the Red Raider coach from the first scrimmage is that he is still waiting for a leader to step up at cornerback.  Tuberville said the secondary's heads were spinning in Saturday's scrimmage because they got beat more often then made a big play. Urell Johnson will not be one those leaders to step up, the sophomore corner has requested to transfer.

"Urell wants to transfer to Southern Miss and he was down on the depth chart," said Tuberville.  "After the first week he just didn't make a move up, he wanted to get closer to his mom back home so we given him the release to go to Southern Miss."
