Texas Tech Athletics Director Kirby Hocutt wasted little time replacing Tommy Tuberville as coach of the Red Raider football team as Hocutt introduced Texas A&M OC Kliff Kingsbury as the programs 15th head coach Wednesday.

The 33-year-old Kingsbury makes his return to the South Plains where he was a record-setting quarterback for the Red Raiders a decade ago under Mike Leach.

Under Kingsbury’s guidance the Aggies stunned the SEC in their inaugural season. Texas A&M finished No. 3 in the nation in scoring and total offense, despite facing three of the nation’s top eight defenses. Kingsbury also molded quarterback Johnny Manziel into the first ever freshman Heisman Trophy winner.

Kingsbury takes over a Texas Tech program that lost four of its' last five games in 2012 and had gone 20-17 and just 9-17 in Big 12 play in Tuberville's three seasons in Lubbock.
