Texas Tech Football Will Face Familiar Coach in Birmingham Bowl
The Texas Tech football team will be traveling to Birmingham, Alabama to play in the Birmingham Bowl against the South Florida Bulls. The game is scheduled for December 23rd at 11 a.m.
The Red Raiders were 6-6 this season, winning their final game against the Texas Longhorns to clinch a bowl bid. The Red Raiders finished 17th nationally in Total Offense and 26th in Scoring offense with more than 34 points per game. The defense was improved, finishing 100th in the nation. The Red Raiders gave up 434 yards per game, more than 100 yards per game better than last season. The scoring defense was ranked 94th in the nation.
The South Florida Bulls were 9-2 this season, losing to undefeated conference champion UCF and Houston, who the Red Raiders beat 27-24 earlier this season.
The Bulls have the 16th best scoring offense in the nation at 38 points per game and are 9th nationally in total offense pacing at over 508 yards per game. The Bulls' defense is 28th nationally, allowing 342 yards per game. The Bulls' scoring defense is 35th, allowing 22 points per game.
The Bulls have more in common than just an opponent in Houston. The bulls are led by coach Charlie Strong, who was at the University of Texas for the three previous years. While a Longhorn, Strong was 2-1 vs Texas Tech.
