Texas Tech will honor the late, great Spike Dykes this season with a special helmet decal that will be there all season.

The decal, as seen in the video above, features a picture of Coach Dykes and the phrase, "I Like Spike," which was a popular saying in Lubbock during his tenure.

Dykes passed away this past April at the age of 79. He is the longest tenured coach in the history of the program, with an 82-67-1 record. Dykes was the first coach in the Big 12 to win Big 12 Coach of the Year in the 1996 inaugural season.

Dykes was the head coach during several of the most memorable games in school history, namely against rivals Texas and Texas A&M. Dykes’ teams topped the two in-state rivals a total of 12 times during his career, the most wins over those two schools by a head coach to this day.

On Sportsline this morning, Rick Dykes, who is a former Red Raiders coach and Spike Dykes' son, said: "Kliff had the idea and we're honored by that," Dykes said, adding: "Each of the family members got a helmet. Cool deal, really cool deal."

Kliff Kingsbury is a great fit in Lubbock. He continually proves it off the field, and I have every hope in the world that he proves it on the field in 2017.
