Texas Tech Baseball Gets Off to a Hot Start
Texas Tech Baseball is off to a blazing fast start in 2017 with a 4 and 1 record and 54 total runs. That's 10 more than anyone else in the Big 12. They also lead the league in team batting average, on base percentage, slugging percentage, hits, I could keep going but you get the picture.
The offense is not the only thing off to a great start though. The Red Raider pitchers have been lights out as well holding opponents to a .190 batting average. The pitching staff also leads the Big 12 in strikeouts with 55 in just 5 games.
It's been a team wide effort but there are a few standouts who have been statistical leaders this season. Josh Jung and Hunter Hargrove received some player of the week honors after their great opening weekend.
Those two aren't the only players off to a great start. There is a Red Raider in the top three of every single stat category that the Big 12 offers, in pitching and batting. They are second in team defense.
Orlando Garcia had 7 RBIs in a single game.
Texas Tech is not just a flash in the pan to start this season either. They will sustain this success on their way to defending the Big 12 title and will have a very good shot at repeating as Champions.
This weekend Cal comes to town. Cal is 2 and 1 on the season having had just one series so far. Cal will be in Lubbock for a 4 game set with a game on Friday, a double header Saturday and a final game on Sunday.
