When it's hot as freshly baked biscuits, the most effective remedy is probably drinking water, but I know I'm reaching for an ice cream cone. Luckily there's some exciting news in the world of ice cream, especially for us Texans.

Blue Bell- headquartered in Brenham, TX, Blue Bell has the devotion and love of many Texans. They have introduced a new flavor that is right up my alley: Coconut Cream Pie. From their website:

Coconut Cream Pie is a rich, coconut French ice cream with flakes of coconut, tasty pie crust pieces and a whipped topping swirl loaded with toasted coconut.

Whataburger- Whataburger is headquartered in San Antonio and opened its first restaurant in Corpus Christi, making it a thoroughly Texas chain 9even if they may be technically owned by outsiders now). Whataburger has announced a new summertime shake: Peaches and Cream. I have always felt like stone fruits don't get enough attention and now I feel a little vindicated.

Howdy Ice Cream- Haven't heard of Howdy? That's because it's brand-spanking-new to Texas. Opening July 22 in Katy, Texas, Howdy Ice Cream, "is aimed at giving job experience to those with autism, Down syndrome and other special needs persons who are often overlooked in the workforce." The franchise location in Texas are owned by Houston rapper, record exec and activist Trae the Truth. Cool!

Non-Texas Specfic Ice Cream News:

Menchi's Frozen Yogurt is debuting a Hi-Chew flavor. Hi-Chew is a Japanese chewy candy and also the best candy on planet earth.

Baskin Robbins has really cute sea-themed treats this month.

Sonic has a shark week drink for a very limited time. It isn't ice cream per se, so let's say it's "ice cream adjacent" (Sonic is out of Oklahoma, I know, I know, they really do seem like a Texas brand.)

Whatever cold treat you reach for, I hope you enjoy it immensely. Live is short, eat the ice cream.
