Terrence Shannon Jr. and His Mom Say Goodbye to Red Raider Nation
Terrence Shannon Jr. was a Red Raider for three seasons before entering the transfer portal after Texas Tech was eliminated from the 2022 NCAA Tournament. There was some thought that Shannon would be returning after checking his options, but that dream has died with the announcement via Shannon's own social media that he is in fact leaving Texas Tech and heading to a new destination.
"I have had an amazing 3 years hear at Texas Tech University," Shannon wrote to Red Raider Nation. "It was truly an honor to be a Red Raider. With that being said, this will be my last season here at Texas Tech."
Shannon closed with, "It's all love Red Raider Nation."
This isn't the first time Shannon has left the program. Last offseason, he spent the offseason preparing to enter the NBA Draft before returning to Texas Tech for a final season. This offseason he'll be searching for a new collegiate program.
If I had to place odds on favorite landing spots, I'd say Kentucky or Illinois make sense to me for Shannon's future and ability.
Shannon's mother also had some things to say about her son's departure.
One of the most prolific voices in recent memory on Texas Tech basketball Twitter, @MsTrea was a super fan of her son and the team across the last three seasons. This year, however, there was some back and forth with fans who were bagging on Shannon in different parts of this season.
As he heads out, she said, "I'm not going to bother responding to the hateful and hurtful comments that I see." Instead, Redding opted for positive interactions. "It was fun being here and interacting with the fan base... It was an honor and pleasure to be a Red Raider Mom!"
Both Shannon and his mom will be missed in 2023 amongst Red Raider Nation.
