The grad transfer from St. Johns has made an enormous difference for Texas Tech this season. Tariq Owens averaged 8.9 points per game and had 5.5 boards starting almost every game for the Red Raiders this season. His biggest impact, though, has been at the rim on the defensive end.

Monday night, Owens proved his dominance by breaking a 22-year-old record set by Tony Battie.

Battie, a 16-year NBA veteran, set the record of 71 blocks during the 1996-97 season. It finally fell after Tariq Owens got a couple of blocks early against the Texas Longhorns in a 19-point win to sweep the Longhorns in the season set.

The win over the Longhorns is the season sweep for Texas Tech, their 5th of the Big 12 season.

All seniors scored for the Red Raiders. Matt Mooney led the Seniors in scoring with 15, Brandone Francis added 12. Jarrett Culver, who also might have played his final game in the United Supermarkets Arena, led all scorers with 16.

The Red Raider defense also came to play, holding the Longhorns to just 51 points on 29 percent shooting from the field. Norense Odiase added three blocks to Owens' three to pile up the stuffs for Texas Tech, who finished with eight blocks total.

The Red Raiders wrap up the regular season Saturday against Iowa State. If they win, they win a share of the Big 12 title. It's as easy as that. After winning their eighth Big 12 game in a row tonight, what's one more?
