Stunning Videos and Photos of the Double T Scoreboard Coming Down

On June 30, 1978, the Double T scoreboard was erected. On December 1, 2022, it said its final goodbye. 

After 44 years, we finally saw the iconic Double T scoreboard come down as a part of Texas Tech’s $200 million project to construct a new south end zone in the Jones AT&T Stadium and connect to the Dustin R. Womble Football Center.  

This is the largest investment into Texas Tech’s football program to date and is largely funded by private fundraising and revenue streams for the athletics department. As planned, the project is now starting with the conclusion of the 2022 football season, starting with the removal of the iconic Double T scoreboard. 

After a few delays, the board finally came down last night.

I went to the stadium around 3:30 yesterday, but unfortunately, the process was delayed late into the night and I wasn’t able to be present for the actual removal of the scoreboard. However, there was the official Texas Tech Athletics live stream of the process along with some other photos and videos posted to Twitter.

As Kirby Hocutt stated, "This facility, when completed, will not take a backseat to any other school in the country. We have received tremendous interest from many of our supporters regarding this project and anticipate that continuing as we get closer to officially breaking ground." And I can't wait to see it.
