
Sheryl Swoopes Named Finalist for Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame
Former Lady Raider and one of the best basketball players of all time Sheryl Swoopes was named a finalist for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Other finalists include Shaquille O'neal, Allen Iverson and coaches Tom Izzo and Eddie Sutton.
Swoopes was a consensus national player of the year during her time at Texas Tech when the Lady Raiders won the National Championship. Swoopes set 30 different records, including most points in a single game at Texas Tech, which still stands today. Her jersey and number were retired in 1994.
After Texas Tech, Swoopes went to the WNBA and was a three-time MVP and won four WNBA championships. She was also recieved multiple defensive player of the year awards, went to the all-star game six times and was a two-time scoring champion.
She also represented the USA in three consecutive Olympic games from 1996-2004.
