Patrick Mahomes Confirms He Will Enter the NFL Draft
It's been the hottest topic in Texas Tech football circles since the end of the Texas Tech football season, and it's culminated today with Patrick Mahomes' announcement via press conference.
Mahomes, bearing a cast from his off-season surgery and obvious emotion, began his press conference by thanking God, his family, all his coaches and Texas Tech for their roles in making Patrick Mahomes what he's become.
With that being said, Patrick Mahomes will forgo his senior season and enter the NFL draft. He is signing with famed NFL agent Leigh Steinberg.
Mahomes said that, "Right now it's somewhere in the 1st 2nd and 3rd rounds" as far as draft position. "I submitted my film and got a 2nd round grade."
In his Texas Tech career, Mahomes threw for more than 11,000 yards. He threw for 93 touchdowns and ran 22 more in. Mahomes set multiple records with his offensive prowess while carrying the team on his back during his two and a half years at the helm.
His win loss record will not do his talent justice when people look back on his time at Texas Tech but the past two years, statistically were two of the greatest ever when it comes to points and yards.
A known Dallas Cowboys fan, Mahomes isn't picky where he's drafted. "I just want to get picked on the right team" Mahomes said when asked about who he wanted to be picked by in the NFL Draft. He wants to be in the right situation where he can learn every day.
Mahomes said the best advice he got from Kliff Kingsbury was to "be a pro either way." He talked about Kingsbury telling him to "sell out," because the opportunity is a slim one. Something Kliff Kingsbury knows very well.
Mahomes will travel to San Antonio tomorrow (Wednesday, Jan. 4) to start his preparation for the NFL Draft.
