Over 400 DWI Arrests Have Been Made in Lubbock in 2021 So Far
As of Thursday, December 30th, Lubbock police officers had made over 400 DWI arrests for 2021.
KAMC News reports that law enforcement are urging the public to not drink and drive, especially with the new year right around the corner.
Texas DPS Sergeant Johnny Bures said this in regards to how much a DWI can cost you:
You see a sign on the side of the road, says DWI, you can’t afford it and driving while intoxicated charges a Class B misdemeanor and after arrest and court costs and fines and penalties. On average, about $15,000 for a first-time offense.
Bures also pointed out that those who are choosing not to drink can still help prevent accidents by watching patrons or others at parties to make sure they're not drinking too much. You can also make sure anyone that has been drinking has a reliable ride home.
Marketing Manager at Citibus, Amy Hughes-Nevill, said that Citibus would be trying to help residents on New Year's Eve:
Citibus is actually offering free rides this New Year’s Eve, so anyone who needs a ride home, if they want to go out and party and drink away. That’s fine. All they have to do is book a ride to the city bus on-demand app.
