The NFL has fined New York Jets guard Matt Slauson $10,000 for his illegal peel back block on Houston Texans linebacker Brian Cushing.  The block caused Cushing to tear his ACL and ended his season.

According to profootballtalk.com, there is nothing against going low on a blindside block but there is a rule against a peel back block.  They also say that the Jets could have been hit with a penalty during the game if Slauson hit Cushing in the head or neck on the play.

Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips' biggest problem with this whole situation was not that the block was legal or not, but that he felt that the block was unnecessary.

Slauson doesn't understand why people are making a big deal about the block and he is appealing the fine.
