Lubbock Police Identify Victims of Fatal New Year’s Day Shooting at Level Nightclub
Two people are dead after an early morning shooting at Level Nightclub (1928 Buddy Holly Ave.) in Lubbock's Depot District on New Year's Day 2020. The suspect is currently unidentified and on the loose.
According to a Lubbock Police Department news release, 24-year-old Dedrick Traylor was involved in a physical altercation with the suspect inside Level Nightclub shortly before he was shot. The other victim, 17-year-old Garyontae Shephard, was shot while running from the scene of the initial shooting, police say.
Shephard was found first on the street outside the club by police, and Traylor was located inside the club. Both victims were transported to University Medical Center where they later died.
The Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit that responded to the shots fired call has said there were no other victims in the shooting.
