Gatherers at Tuesday night's memorial for fallen Texas Tech police officer Floyd East, Jr. sang a mournful version of the university's Matador Song.

Fight, Matadors, for Tech!
Songs of love we'll sing to thee,
Bear our banners far and wide.
Ever to be our pride,
Fearless champions ever be.
Stand on heights of victory.
Strive for honor evermore.
Long live the Matadors!

The Lubbock community has come together in solidarity after the shocking events of Monday night that saw Texas Tech campus, UMC and Covenant on lockdown for over an hour.

The news made headlines on many national and international outlets, but here at home it feels deeply personal -- and like we all lost something.

I'm proud of Lubbock for the outpouring of love for the family of Officer Floyd East, Jr. Let's continue forward with love and honor the fallen whenever we are able.

If you'd like to donate to the family of Officer East, you can do so at the official GoFundMe page set up in his memory.
