The Lubbock Police Department had to call the SWAT team for reinforcements this afternoon. The Lubbock Police Department received a report of a domestic disturbance around 1 p.m. this afternoon, August 26th.

Police were dispatched to the area of the 6000 block of 78th Street where officers discovered 30-year-old Ryan Kohls. KAMC news reported that Kohls was violating a protective order and was not supposed to be at the residence. While not a threat to the public reports state that Kohl had a knife and was threatening to kill himself when officers arrived. The residence was behind Crestview Elementary School which forced Frenship ISD to take to social media to let parents and guardians know that the campus was in no immediate danger.

The Lubbock Police Department did have to call for back-up due to the nature of the situation, involving a violated protective order and a weapon. SWAT and Negotiators were called out to aid in the situation at 3:05 p.m.. In under an hour at 4:00 p.m. Kohl was taken into custody and is currently being held in the Lubbock County Detention Center.
