Tokyo Steakhouse has been a Lubbock staple for years. If you were celebrating a birthday or anniversary or just wanted a fancy and fun night out, there's a good chance you headed over to their location on 50th Street for a memorable evening.

Tragically, the owner of Tokyo, Diep Truong, died suddenly on Saturday from complications of the flu. The flu this year is widely regarded as one of the worst in a decade, with many sick at the same time, being hospitalized or dying in extreme cases.

Tokyo Steakhouse is temporary closed as of the writing of this article (Jan. 23, 2018) as the family plans Diep's funeral.

An outpouring of love has happened for Diep both on Tokyo Steakhouse's Facebook Page and on a GoFundMe set up to help offset funeral costs and final expenses. Diep is also the uncle of a very dear friend of mine, who had this to say about her loved one:

Hi friends, my family and I are all in shock at the recent and unexpected passing of my uncle. His death was sudden, due to complications with the flu.
He was a local business owner (Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse) and lifelong resident of Lubbock, Texas. He was dearly loved and his absence will be felt deeply.

As a member of a family full of small business owners, I can say from experience that owners typically forget to save back anything for themselves past their bare minimum; profits tend to go towards improvements, expansions and hiring staff.

If you have a special memory of Tokyo Steakhouse, please consider giving Diep a farewell "tip"-- I'm sure his family will really appreciate the love. Donations can be made at the official GoFundMe page.
